After first publishing "The Sunbonnet Babies," in 1900 and being included in Eulalie Osgood Grover's "Sunbonnet Primer" in 1902, Bertha Corbett Melcher illustrated "The Overall Boys" in response to many requests to include boy characters in the primers.
